POACHERS HIT RHINO EXHIBIT

Natural history museums are being targeted by criminals desperate for rhino horns to sell on the black market. They are being hit because game reserves are tightening security – making it harder for poachers to shoot the animals, said Jatti Bredekamp, head of Cape Town`s Iziko Museums in South Africa. The museum has had to put its 120-years-old rhino back on display minus its horn, stolen last week. Rhinos have become endangered because of the market in their horns, which are believed to have medicinal properties. But Iziko Museums warned that using its horn could be lethal because it was preserved with arsenic.
